The Islington Boxing Club was first founded and known as Kings Cross Amateur Boxing Club in January 1974. The club was based in the community hall of York Way Court, close to Kings Cross Station (now home to Times ABC).
Founder members included: Local publican and former boxer Reg Topper who volunteered as a trainer and fundraiser. Beat policeman Bill McCourt acted as Honorary Secretary. Railwayman Jim Parodi was club treasurer.
Islington Boxing Club is one of North London’s premier amateur boxing gyms. The club has produced numerous national champions and internationals and continues to be successful with our current team. The club has excellent facilities including 3 rings over two floors, 19 punchbags, 6 floor to ceiling balls, 2 speedballs, skipping areas, mirrors, treadmill, 3 bikes, cross trainer and weights room.
The club is open to Men, Women and Junior boxers to participate in the sport. We were once known to be a boys club but this is now outdated & female boxing is ever growing especially at the IBC.
The club prides itself on having every boxer who competes for the club well schooled and technically competent. Last season, the clubs average win ratio was 70%. We strive to improve all the time as a club and for each individual boxer.
Although we have a rich tradition it is always the aim of the clubs committee to improve the facilities, standard and profile of the club. The club is always looking to progress and with its forward-thinking boxing orientated committee this is evident in the progress we have made over the last year or so.
You must be a member to join the Competitive Boxing section, there are no trails/non-members prices.
